I love these. I've seen them all over flickr, but this is the first time I've really liked the results from one my photos as a polar projection.

What are you using to get the polar images?
The Polar Distort in the Gimp. Just resize the the images so that it is square, and run the distort. Really simple. You can look here for a good tutorial by Dirk Paessler that covers photoshop too.
